Trump on a tough course against Iran
The president of the United States has followed a strict course against the regime of the mullahs for years. Trump had unilaterally terminated the international nuclear deal with Iran in May 2018. Six months later, the United States implemented its toughest economic sanctions to date, targeting primarily Iran’s oil industry, the country’s largest source of income. Therefore, the purchase of Iranian oil is subject to US sanctions internationally. Little by little, new punitive measures against Tehran followed.
The United States wants to use sanctions to force Iran to negotiate a stricter and expanded nuclear deal. Tehran refuses. Trump has also included the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on the list of terrorist organizations.
