No dress rehearsal for the Four Hills Tournament for Stefan Kraft – the overall winner of the World Cup last season is also missing the weekend in Engelberg, Switzerland. The Salzburg resident would like to cure his back pain, which recently forced him to skip the World Ski Flight Championships in Planica, until the Four Hills Tournament, which starts on December 28.
Kraft may very well not decide whether to perform until the Christmas holidays. The Salzburg man has been out of action since a corona infection just after the start of the World Cup in Wisla.
Austria’s ski jumpers will compete in Engelberg (today at 6pm qualifying, Saturday and Sunday from 4pm, individual competitions) with Michael Hayböck, Philipp Aschenwald, Manuel Fettner, Daniel Huber, Thomas Lackner and Gregor Schlierenzauer.
After a cancellation and postponement, Chiara Hölzl and Co. finally begin the World Cup season today (3:40 pm) in Ramsau. The expectation is high after the great preseason. Hölzl missed the overall World Cup title by just 65 points with six individual victories, while Eva Pinkelnig, who is currently injured, was third overall with three individual victories. Innviertel’s Jacqueline Seifriedsberger is not yet ready for the World Cup after her cruciate ligament tear in the pre-winter season.
Violinist with positive test
Newly crowned world ski flying champion Karl Geiger (D) delivered a positive corona test yesterday and, like his competitor Kraft, is also absent at Engelberg.
