José Mourinho won the coach’s all-star duel with former rival Pep Guardiola in the English Premier League. Tottenham defeated Manchester City 2-0 at Schlager and took the lead in the standings ahead of Liverpool’s main game against Leicester City (Christian Fuchs) on Sunday.
After the loss two days after Guardiola’s contract extension, ManCity is in midfield with just three wins in eight games, eight points behind Tottenham. The Hotspurs, on the other hand, got going after an uneven start to the season with four points from three games.
On Saturday they celebrated their fourth consecutive victory thanks to goals from South Korean Son Heung-min (5th) and Argentine Giovani Lo Celso (65th). Striker Son spent part of his international break in quarantine at a Vienna hotel, while midfielder Lo Celso scored just seconds after being substituted.
Tottenham replaced Chelsea at the top. Rivals from the city had temporarily taken first place in the afternoon with a 2-0 win against Newcastle United. An own goal from Federico Fernández (10th) and a goal from Tammy Abraham (65th) were enough for the Blues to win.
