34 theaters could turn orange this afternoon. Upper Austria and Lower Austria are particularly affected: St. Pölten is about to turn red.
The number of new corona infections has increased rapidly recently. On Wednesday alone, the sad all-time high of daily positive tests was far exceeded. There have never been more than 1,200 cases since the start of the pandemic. And the day continues in a tight Corona cycle: At 2 p.m., the traffic light commission meets for its weekly meeting at the Ministry of Health. How “Today” learned beforehand, the Austria card should be much more colorful than in the previous week. In their discussion base, AGES and GÖG propose an orange connection for 34 regions of Austria; for 12 of them, this would mean a higher risk: before they were green or yellow.
St. Will Pölten turn red?
Lower Austria and Upper Austria are particularly affected by the new clusters. In the largest federal state, 15 districts could already glow orange tonight, with a premiere of Bruck an der Leitha, which is supposed to change from yellow to orange.
► What is striking: St. Pölten has a risk adjusted 7 day case count of 133.4 due to the high number of newly infected older people (nursing home group), that would be clearly red! It is not clear why AGES and GÖG still suggest “only” orange.
At the committee meeting, the federal government representatives or the expert panel can still advocate for red in the red-ruled city. Representatives of the other federal states have consistently refrained from such demands. Hermagor (Ktn.) Has a similar fate. In this case, the 7-day risk-adjusted number of cases is 123.2.
► The situation in Upper Austria is likely to get worse. So far there has not been a single orange district here. It could be eight tonight.
Styria no orange change
The federal capital Vienna remains a few days before the elections according to the AGES and GÖG proposal on orange status. The risk-adjusted incidence is 80.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In Austria, Styria would be the only federal state without an orange traffic light. At the green mark, 8 districts should glow yellow tonight. Deutschlandsberg, Leoben, Weiz, Murtal and Southeastern Styria even remain green.
Sufficient hospital capacity
Of the 721 intensive care beds available across Austria, 100 are currently occupied. Currently, 425 patients are being treated with Covid-19 in normal wards; this is an increase compared to the previous week. Most of the active cases are currently in Vienna. Behind: Lower Austria and Upper Austria.
