Three men were arrested after a fire involving a seriously injured man at a hotel in Linz on Wednesday. The prosecution is investigating attempted murder and arson. The 44, 46 and 50-year-old Latvians denied in their interrogation that they had anything to do with the fire and the injuries of their 49-year-old compatriot in the hotel room.
The four men were likely to have had a dispute late Tuesday to Wednesday in the hotel room that later burned down in central Linz, the Upper Austrian state police department reported Thursday. Initially, it was not clear what it was about. The witnesses had only heard one argument. It is unlikely that a fifth 30-year-old Latvian was there and was brought in as a witness by the police.
Massive skull injuries
At 1:15 am, two police officers approached the fire and broke the closed door of the room. They acted quickly, saving the wounded man who did not respond to calls. In addition to his severe burns, the 49-year-old also suffered massive injuries to the skull, prosecutors spokeswoman Ulrike Breitender reported. WHAT. Meanwhile, he has been transferred from Linz University Hospital to a Vienna hospital due to burns.
The three detainees said they knew the wounded man and that they had been in the hotel room, but could not imagine how the fire would have occurred, according to a spokeswoman for the authorities. Two of the three suspects were arrested Wednesday afternoon in the city center, the third at 7 pm at a hotel in Urfahr.
How the men got to Linz a few days ago is still being investigated. Two of them should not have blank pages, but rather have a massive criminal record, as they themselves would have said. According to the police, they should specialize in credit fraud. All three were taken to prison on Thursday and a request for pretrial detention was submitted.
