The violent storm that hit southern Styria and Burgenland on Saturday afternoon killed three people. As reported by the state security center in Burgenland, a tree fell on a minibus in the municipality of Burgauberg-Neudauberg.

The accident happened around 5 pm near a golf course. The taxi company’s vehicle, which was registered for nine people, was completely buried under the huge tree. Three inmates died and four other people had to be taken to Oberwart Hospital with injuries.

The Stegersbach fire brigade deployed two vehicles and eight men for rescue operations. There were also three ambulances and four ambulances at the scene.

Highest alert level issued in the region

Austria’s Severe Weather Center issued the highest warning level (purple) in the afternoon due to the storm approaching from the southwest for much of southeastern Styria and southern Burgenland. Due to the pronounced high-altitude currents, there was also a local risk of hail and storms, “Today” reported.
