For more than 30 years, the “Salon Österreich Wein” has been the state championship for local winemakers. Each year, the best wines are determined in hidden tastings of thousands of current entries in 17 categories. A total of 270 wines are presented in the “Salon”. Ten of them are called “chosen”, who are nominated by specialized magazines, wine journalists and sommeliers.

Due to the corona pandemic, research on “parlor wines” was delayed for months this year. Chris Yorke, Managing Director of Österreich Wein Marketing GmbH (ÖWM), is pleased that it has been successful despite adverse circumstances this year. The 2019 vintage is among the best vintages. 126 of the 270 wines awarded the title of “Salon Wines” in 2020 come from this vintage.

As for the names of the winners, one thing stands out: Ernst and Sonja Frischauf’s winery from Röschitz in Weinviertel was twice as successful. And in the Chardonnay they won two capable twin brothers, Rudi and Michael Sax from Langenlois. There is also a special Veltliner brand in Winzerhof Sax: “Zwillingslauser”.

“Our mother Erni gave us the name,” says Michael, “when we were three years old and it was real Lauser.” The Lauser twin wine, and that is the remarkable thing, comes from a vineyard that the parents of the “Lauser”. “Planted at its birth in 1985.

The winning wines will be presented in various presentations in the fall. You can find all the events here.
