There were 455 corona cases in the schools during the first two weeks of instruction. The Education Ministry announced it in a broadcast on Friday.
Of these, 372 were students, 58 teachers, and 25 administrative staff. There are also around 3,600 suspected cases.
Most corona infections in Vienna schools
Most of the confirmed infections occurred in Vienna, where 198 students, 15 teachers and 17 administrative employees tested positive. It is followed by Upper Austria (50 students / ten teachers / three administrative employees), Lower Austria (7/41/3), Tyrol (3/30/30), Vorarlberg (6/26/0), Salzburg (6/13/ 1), Styria (10/4/0) and Burgenland (4/0/1). Carinthia is the only federal state that has not yet registered a positive student test, but seven teachers. In Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland, the school year started a week earlier.
Meanwhile, there are hardly any schools in Vienna that have yet to face suspected cases of Covid 19 in the first two weeks of school. In recent days, parents and teachers, as well as the Minister of Education, Heinz Faßmann (ÖVP), criticized the long waiting time for the tests and their results.
Mobile teams perform corona tests in Vienna
Therefore, the latter is starting its own pilot project in the federal capital in cooperation with the school’s doctors, various media reported on Friday. Mobile teams should test suspected cases or direct contact persons in schools using the water gargle method. You don’t take a nasopharyngeal swab, but instead gargle for about a minute. The results should, depending on the time, be available the same day or the next day.
Regular tests start at the end of September
Regardless of this, the periodic monitoring by gargle water tests announced by the ministry at the beginning of classes will begin at the end of September. Every three to four weeks, 15,000 students and 1,200 teachers will gargle. Therefore, regardless of “acute” cases, you want to get an overview of the infection situation.
