A new variant of the corona virus is circulating in South Africa!
The variant, initially called 501.V2, was discovered during genetic studies of samples from different provinces. South African Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a televised speech Friday night.
It is not yet clear how this new variant will affect future vaccines. Previous strategies of the South African government should not be changed.
In South Africa, 892,813 corona cases have so far been confirmed and more than 24,000 people have died in connection with Covid 19 disease. The government imposed a nationwide exit restriction in late March to contain the spread of the virus. and it was slightly hardened again after a temporary withdrawal at the beginning of the Christmas season. The restrictions are having a devastating effect on the economy.
The virus also mutated in Britain and Denmark.
Only recently had British authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about a new variant of the coronavirus discovered in Britain. A mutated version of the coronavirus was also found in minks in Denmark a few months ago, after which the Danish government had millions of minks killed.
According to the WHO, the already known variants of the virus little or nothing have behaved differently from the virus that was first identified in terms of the routes of infection or the severity of the disease.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson summons his cabinet for a special meetingto discuss a new variant of the virus that is more contagious. A tightening of the measures could be announced on Saturday, reports “The Telegraph.” There may be travel restrictions to the South East of England, including London. A Johnson spokesperson did not initially comment on the report. On Monday, the government said an increase in cases in the region could be due to the new variant.
