In July, the government decided a one-time payment of 450 euros for people who received at least 60 days of unemployment benefit or emergency assistance between May 1 and August 31, 2020. Starting today, Wednesday, it will be paid the money.
Money is transferred automatically, no separate application is necessary. Also eligible are people who are no longer unemployed at the time of payment. It also does not reduce unemployment benefits, unemployment assistance, or the minimum income.
40 percent of beneficiaries in Vienna
About four out of ten beneficiaries (160,000) are in their homes in Vienna. It is followed by Lower Austria (60,000), Upper Austria and Styria (45,000 each), Tyrol (30,000 each), Carinthia and Salzburg (20,000 each), Vorarlberg (15,000) and Burgenland (10,000). The exact numbers must be available after the measurement has been completed.
“In particular, people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own in the course of the crisis have faced major challenges in recent months. Therefore, they are also supported with 450 euros, which is automatically transferred to the accounts, “said Labor Minister Christine Aschbacher (ÖVP) on this occasion.
When the National Council decided in July, the SPÖ criticized the fact that the one-time payment of € 450 would not prevent poverty or support purchasing power and consumption. Instead, he called for unemployment benefits to be increased from 55 percent of his last salary to 70 percent, but he agreed with the government in favor of the measure. The FPÖ and the Neos voted against.
Grant is not deducted
The one-time crown-related payment of 450 euros is not offset by social assistance or minimum income in Upper Austria. Last week, the state government approved a corresponding emergency ordinance at the request of the state social councilor Birgit Gerstorfer (SP).
Regulation of the exception became necessary because the one-time payment for the unemployed announced by the government due to the crown crisis must be added to income.
The federal government had recommended that the lump sum also be granted to the “supplements” of the minimum rent. Whoever receives so little unemployment benefit or unemployment assistance that they have had to apply for minimum income benefits will also receive the 450 euros provided for the “normal” unemployed. About a third of those who receive minimum income benefits are potentially affected. All federal states want to comply with this recommendation.
