Teschl-Hofmeister / Heuras: focus on German lessons for children aged 6 to 14
St. Pölten (OTS / NLK) – Almost 3,500 Lower Austrian pupils used the last two weeks, and thus the last weeks of vacation, to intensively prepare for the new school year as part of summer school. Summer school was a free, non-mandatory offer and was accepted by about 65 percent of the students it was targeted at. Today at the primary school in Amstetten, the regional education councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister and the director of education Johann Heuras were convinced of the success of the two weeks of learning: “In times of the corona pandemic, summer school is extremely important to all those students who need additional support. We are pleased to have been able to find a total of 484 people who have intensively prepared our less qualified children and youth for the new school year. “
A total of 79 children in six groups from various school locations in the region attended summer school at the Amstetten Preinsbacherstraße location. A teacher and a student cared for each of the children during project-oriented work with a focus on language-sensitive lessons, so that the two weeks were used extremely efficiently. The children had the opportunity to go back to school every day and use German as the language of instruction in project-oriented activities during the summer school period.
The summer school took place in Lower Austria from August 24 as a supplementary lesson and had the particular aim of promoting German. Above all, students with lower learning abilities at the elementary and secondary level (lower level VS, MS and AHS) and particularly extraordinary students were able to benefit from lessons during the holidays. Above all, important deficits on the subject of German must be addressed. “The goal is for all students to have a good start to the new school year on Monday. We will see what the new school year will bring and we are confident that together we will have a successful school year as we observe known safety precautions, ”said Teschl-Hofmeister and Heuras in unison.
