On the two remaining shopping Saturdays before Christmas, December 12 and 19, retailers can stay open one hour longer than usual until 7 p.m., the social partners announced Wednesday night.
In order for the opening hours to be extended, the GPA trade union and the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WK) have agreed an addition to the existing collective agreement for white-collar workers and apprentices in retail trade: a corresponding ordinance of the Ministry is required of Work for the opening of Saturday. Working hours from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on December 8, 12 and 19 is overtime for employees, for which they receive a 100 percent salary increase.
