In the federal state of Salzburg, 70 communities are currently affected by corona cases. The most actively infected people are in Tennengau, as state statistics reported in a broadcast Thursday.

Here are Corona’s current figures from Salzburg state statistics (as of October 8 at 11.30am): To date, 2,519 people in Salzburg have tested positive. 43 people have died, 14 people are in the hospital and one person in the intensive care unit. There are 361 actively infected people, up from 288 a week ago.

Crown numbers by district

  • Tennengau 93
  • Salzburg City 89
  • Flachgau 77
  • Pongau 60
  • Pinzgau 27
  • Lungau 15

The number of affected communities increased further to 70 (59 a week ago). The seven-day incidence is 47.8. A week ago it was 32.1 and at the beginning of September it was around 10.

Most actively infected people in Tennengau

Tennengau ranks first in the district comparison with 152.9 actively infected people per 100,000 inhabitants in Salzburg. They are followed by Lungau (74.1), Pongau (70.2), the city of Salzburg (57.4), Flachgau (50.8) and Pinzgau (31.9). “There have already been significant changes here. Lungau, with long low numbers, is now in second place, the city of Salzburg only in fourth place. And we can still see the strongest infection rate in Tennengau,” explains Gernot Filipp , Head of State Statistics.

Seven-day incident: threatening a travel warning for Salzburg?

Salzburg looks at the incidence of seven days with an eagle’s eyes, that is, the average of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants during the last seven days. At age 50, Germany issues a travel warning, Salzburg is at 47.8 to October 8 at 8:30 a.m.

“At the beginning of September the value was 10, a week ago a little more than 32”, Filipp reads a clear trend in the infection process.

Salzburg below the value of Austria

The number of actively infected people per 100,000 inhabitants continues to rise in the federal state of Salzburg, currently at 64.5 and thus still well below Austria’s 106.5 value. Vienna leads with 252.7, followed by Tirol (105.1), Vorarlberg (87.9), Lower Austria (77.5), Burgenland (77.1), Upper Austria (67.5), Salzburg (64.5), Styria (40.4) and Carinthia (28).

Now 900 tests per day

Currently, around 900 tests for Covid-19 are carried out every day in Salzburg, and private labs have been reporting the statistics for a few days, as reported. The total number to date is 91,600 smears. The proportion of positive results on all tests has risen continuously since the beginning of September and is currently just under five percent (seven-day average). For comparison: at the end of March, this value was just over twelve percent.

The youngest most affected

“What is also remarkable: at the beginning of the pandemic, the elderly in Salzburg were mainly affected, the average age fell very dramatically in summer, although now it is rising again slightly,” Filipp said. The largest group, however, is still 15-34 years old, followed by 35-54 years old.

Coronavirus: Breeding number at 1.08

The deciding factor for the spread of the coronavirus is how many other people a person infects. Currently, this value is 1.08. Last week it was 1.2. “This value drops slightly, which, however, only gives cause for hope if the level of the infection rate generally decreases in the coming days and weeks,” Filipp said.
