Now, the number of new corona virus infections is also increasing enormously in Germany. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) yesterday announced 11,287 positive test results in one day. The day before was 7830. “In the meantime, the situation has become very serious overall,” RKI chief Lothar Wieler said. But he added: “At this point, we still have a chance to slow the spread of the virus.” And everyone can contribute. “We are not powerless.”
Wieler called on everyone to abide by the AHA rules. This means keeping your distance, washing your hands regularly, and wearing everyday masks (cloth and surgical masks without filters).
However, the virus is expected to spread strongly and “out of control” in some regions, Wieler said. The number of cases has increased since the beginning of September and “faster and faster.” It is a “very dynamic event”.
He is particularly critical of private parties and gatherings with friends. Compared to the first wave of the pandemic, “most people become infected in their private lives.” There are also outbreaks in workplaces.
School breakouts are rare
Wieler highlighted meat processing companies. “Outbreaks in schools are not that common.” Furthermore, children are not the drivers of the pandemic. However, he emphasized: the more the number of cases increases, the more often schools are affected.
In response to criticism that more tests were being done and therefore the number would increase, Wieler said: “The number of those who tested positive is also continuously increasing.” Now it is more than three percent, regardless of age.
