Significant growth in a few days – worrying development, especially in the western federal states.

The seven-day incidence – the number of new coronavirus infections in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, which plays a central role in the evaluation of epidemiological events – iit has increased significantly in Austria in recent days. The value on Friday was 94, 8, noted the board of the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) on Monday, 2 pm 109.9 current cases of SARS-CoV-2 per 100,000 population.
Relative to individual federal states, Salzburg was clearly ahead with a seven-day incidence of 177.9; on Friday it was still at 139.8. Vorarlberg followed with 160.8 (Friday: 124.8), Tirol with 158.9 (Friday: 139.8) and Vienna with 146.3 (Friday: 134.5). This is notable to the extent that the states of Salzburg and Tirol recently drastically tightened their measures to contain the coronavirus, while the federal capital was more cautious. A package of measures across Austria announced by the federal government on Monday, which aims to prevent a second lockdown and overload of the healthcare system, will come into force on October 23.

In the Salzburg Tennengau, epidemiological events can be described as dramatic. In the Hallein district with the quarantined community of Kuchl, the seven-day incidence is now 513.5. In Pongau it is 225.9, in Flachgau 207.5.
In Tyrol, five of the nine districts are now well or just below the 200 limit. The state capital, Innsbruck, currently has a seven-day incidence of 243.0, the Schwaz district in Unterland 230.1. Imst beat Innsbruck Land (188.5) with 191.5. Also in Landeck, the incidence is clearly increasing by 180.3.
In Vorarlberg there is no longer a district with a seven-day incidence below 124.0. Bludenz records exactly this value. Feldkirch is at the top with 182.9, Bregenz and Dornbirn remain at 1630.0 and 160.6 respectively.
In Upper Austria, the Schärding district is likely to have a second red candidate at the next traffic light, it shouldn’t be possible to have development under control there. At the moment, the Northwest district shows a seven-day incidence of 226.8, while the city of Wels, which was last changed to red, has 204.1.
In Styria, with a seven-day incidence of 65.7, no district currently exceeds the 100 mark. Murtal has the highest incidence of seven days (88.9). The leader in the most severely affected Lower Austria is Bruck / Leitha (135.3), followed by Waidhofen / Thaya (123.6) and St. Pölten Stadt (118.1). In Burgenland, Neusiedl / See (156.2) and Oberwart (103.6) are ahead.
The only federal state with the seven-day incidence still below the 50 limit – if this threshold is exceeded in Germany in the affected cities and regions, the curfew in restaurants is automatically brought forward to 11 pm -, is Carinthia. The national incidence of 49.7 is clearly exceeded in the city of Klagenfurt with 98.2 and St. Veit / Glan with 91.7.
