The second blockade seals the end of the “new normal”

In the eighth month of the crown crisis, Austria slides into the new edition of the spring emergency operation with good eyesight and despite all the warnings. The main reason for this is a lack of perspective.

Not the crisis team’s repeatedly modified testing strategy, not the poorly designed corona traffic light, and not the problems with contact tracing due to staffing failures, responsible for the impending tightening of measures to reduce the The contact, which will recall the blockade ordered in mid-March, is solely the unwillingness of parts of the population to adhere to the rules of conduct. Therefore, wear a mask indoors, keep a distance of one to two meters, wash your hands with soap several times a day, and avoid crowds if possible.

All the appeals, reminders and ultimately also warnings from politicians and doctors could not prevent a new and sharp rise in infections, in which shortages are often referred to as the second wave. And given that the logical consequence of this is capacity bottlenecks in hospitals, especially in intensive care units, an emergency shutdown is now required to interrupt the transmission chains for two to three weeks, slowing the spread of the coronavirus and regain control of the situation in Austria.

But how did it come to this? Why didn’t so many people take warranties seriously and, despite the growing number, didn’t change their negligent, sometimes even negligent behavior?
