Pope Francis celebrated the Easter vigil on Saturday like last year under the conditions of the Crown. Due to current restrictions in Italy, Mass in St. All Italy is also considered a red zone with the strictest Corona rules during the Easter days of April 3-5. For the most part, the same restrictions apply in the Vatican State as in the Italian capital, Rome. Only a few dignitaries and believers were present at the service in the massive St. Peter’s Basilica, which is home to tens of thousands of visitors. The fair was partly shortened.
Christians commemorate the resurrection of Jesus on the Easter vigil. During the celebration, the Easter candle, the light of Christ, is carried into the mostly dark St. Peter’s Basilica. It is also the celebration in which the church bells ring again after traditionally remaining silent since Holy Thursday. Easter is the most important religious holiday for Christians.
“There is always a way to restart, regardless of our defeats. Everyone knows the rubble in our hearts. Even with the rubble in our hearts, a work of art can be built. In these dark months of the pandemic, the Lord warns We will not never lose hope, “said the Pope. Francis called on believers to “be amazed at the ways of God.” God calls us to surprise ourselves. “The faith is alive and it is not a memory of childhood,” said the head of the Catholic Church.
On Holy Thursday, Francis celebrated the Chrism Mass together with some 200 believers in St. Peter’s Basilica. The most important theme on the Good Friday program was the Stations of the Cross in the square in front of St. Peter’s Basilica. On Easter Sunday, Francis wants to celebrate Easter Mass and donate the blessing “Urbi et Orbi” (“For the city and the world”). Due to the corona pandemic, mass (11am) is held in St. Peter’s Basilica without believers.
