The number of effective reproduction of the coronavirus in Austria fell to 1.14 between August 14 and 26.
In the previous comparison period it was 1.31. The Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) announced this on Friday night. Travel-related infections appear to be on the decline.
Coronavirus: decrease in daily rate of increase
The daily rate of increase in new infections also fell back to about 1.4 percent. Between August 7 and 19 it was 9.9 percent. For Burgenland, the statistics show a breeding number of around 1.3 (similar to Styria), in Carinthia it is around 0.8. Lower Austria should be at 1.2, very similar to Upper Austria, Salzburg on the other hand at a level of around 1.0. In the case of Tyrol, the value could not be calculated due to technical problems. Vorarlberg recently had a replay number of around 1.0. In Vienna, too, the number of reproductions of SARS-CoV-2 dropped to around 1.2.
The reproduction number gives an indication of the development of the spread of a pathogen. A value of 1.0 would correspond to the situation remaining the same, regardless of the level. Values below 1.0 indicate a downward trend.
Experts around AGES epidemiologist Daniela Schmid and experts from Graz University of Technology: “The decrease or stable development of the effective reproductive number in Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Vorarlberg and Vienna it goes back to a relaxation in the occurrence of travel-related infections. The number of newly diagnosed cases every day remains at a high level. “
