The latest version of the KTM ADVENTURE models in the 1000+ cc displacement class, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R, was developed to conquer demanding and challenging terrain and to take your rider anywhere in the world.
The 2021 generation KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R is ready to make its mark in the most remote places and has been redesigned from the ground up with many groundbreaking updates.
Maneuverability on any terrain
When developing the all-new 2021 version of the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R, the engineers focused on ensuring simple and intuitive handling even on the toughest terrain. The all-new bodywork offers excellent ergonomics and ensures that the fuel in the tank sits as low as possible to increase maneuverability and lower the center of gravity for better response in all situations.
The KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R rider now drives through curves even more dynamically: this is made possible by the steering head that has been moved back 15 mm, the relocation of the front of the engine and an arm Slightly longer armature swingarm for more feedback when accelerating. KTM engineers have analyzed and trimmed every inch of the bodywork to achieve optimal strength and a perfect connection between rider and motorcycle.
A new three-part fuel tank with a 23-liter capacity further improves feedback and balance thanks to its low position. Like the chassis, the rear frame has also been redesigned and now houses a stepped sports bench with a 880mm seat height, slim dimensions and a practical storage compartment underneath.
The revised 2021 generation WP suspension further contributes to improved handling. With the best that WP XPLOR technology has to offer, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R creates a direct link to off-road racing. The fully adjustable 48mm fork with an impressive 220mm travel offers a split damping function and can be quickly adjusted by turning the corresponding adjustment wheels. The WP PDS shock offers the same spring travel. The system was tested and optimized in the California desert and in many different landscapes in Europe.
Performance-oriented technology
The KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R from model year 2021 has been equipped with the latest electronics packages and continually continues to successfully collaborate with pioneers like Bosch. A new 6-D sensor filters information about the lean, position and behavior of the bike. This data influences the intervention of the motorcycle’s traction control, the engine’s drag torque control, the motorcycle’s stability control, and the off-road ABS. To meet the needs of the modern off-road enthusiast, all driver assistance systems can be adjusted or turned off.
Aside from the standard RAIN, STREET, SPORT and OFFROAD modes, the optional RALLY mode allows the driver to make the throttle response more aggressive and set one of nine different levels of rear wheel slip. Changes to adapt the bike to the respective terrain are made on a new, even more user-friendly 7-inch TFT screen, which is connected to a new connectivity unit. The now more practical menus can be accessed more quickly via the new display, while in connection with the KTM MY RIDE app it also provides clear turn-by-turn navigation.
Premium components
The KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R is powered by the latest Euro 5 compliant version of the LC8 engine, which is now 1.6kg lighter than before, but still powerful with 160hp at 9,000rpm and 138Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. rpm and thus defends the throne of the most powerful engine in this segment. To improve its heat dissipation and lose a few grams of weight for better handling, KTM has manufactured all the elements of the V-2 powerplant.
While the predecessor had a single cooler, the new KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R 2021 has two separate units to optimize airflow through the bike. Thanks to the intelligently designed air ducts, less hot air reaches the driver’s legs, which is especially noticeable in slow and narrow passages.
The redesigned air filter box allows access to the air filter by removing just four screws. The filter itself is now made up of vertical rather than horizontal blades, helping to keep dust and sand off the bottom of the air filter box. Overall, this makes for an even better design for hardcore adventurers.
Other engine upgrades include lighter engine housings, new pistons, an improved shift mechanism, revised linings, and easier access to the air cleaner, as well as a new dual-manifold exhaust system. All of this makes the LC8 easier to turn, more reliable, and more reliable in any situation. In addition, the engine only needs a maintenance service every 15,000 km and consumes only 5.7 l of fuel per 100 km. In cooperation with PANKL, KTM has also optimized the shifting mechanism for faster, smoother and more precise shifting processes. These innovations are particularly notable in relation to the optional Quickshifter +, which now shifts even faster and with greater precision.
To meet the challenges of the terrain, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R is equipped with premium components. ALPINA’s aluminum spoked rims, which require no tube thanks to an O-ring at the spoke nipples, are now covered with new Bridgestone Adventure tires. The new generation of the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R comes with stunning modern colors and graphics. The KTM RACE ON keyless system offers a new level of autonomy, separate sensors for the tire pressure monitoring system ensure even greater safety and Brembo’s 4-piston radial brake calipers stop loading or drift quickly anytime. The windshield, lever, footrest and handlebar are adjustable so that you can adapt your bike perfectly to you.
Like the S model, the KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R also benefits from tailored optional software packages.
