“If the mountain does not reach the prophet, the prophet has to go to the mountain,” said the mayor of Wels, Andreas Rabl (FP), at the Welser Zeitung almost two weeks ago. Due to the low number of visitors to Corona’s test streets in showroom 20, the idea was born for a mobile offering that the people of Wels can now use in the city.
On Monday, the “Welser Covid-19 test bus” was in town for the first time. Between 8.15 am and 2.45 pm, registered and unregistered persons were able to perform an antigen test at six stops in the districts of Laahen, Wimpassing, Neustadt, in the station square and in the industrial zone.
“The offer has been very well received,” says Philipp Braun of the Wels magistrate, who is on the bus with two of his colleagues and records the data of those willing to take the test. “It goes fast: we process the data in two minutes, then people can go to the test.” This is done by two paramedics from the Red Cross. Test participants receive the results on their mobile phones.
The test bus stops at a station for 45 minutes to an hour before continuing. “We can test about 50 people per station,” says Braun. The stations were deliberately chosen: “We stop at kindergartens and after-school care centers. All staff can come to test immediately.” Many older people would also come, for whom the path to the showroom is difficult.
Tomorrow the bus will stop at another six stops, this week a total of 30 stations will be served (information: www.wels.gv.at). In addition to the test lanes at the fairgrounds and at the Wels Clinic, free trials are also held at Stern, Guardian Angel, Unicorn, Linden and Maxine pharmacies and at the pharmacy in Welas Park.
