What is the NHL Draft?
The NHL Draft is an NHL Ice Hockey League event, in which league teams can acquire rights to available young players and fans (English for draft = summon, enter).
Basically, it’s about the best ice hockey players in the world between the ages of 18 and 21 being awarded to the 31 teams in the NHL. In order for the league to be as balanced as possible over the years, the weakest teams from last season can always pick first. The winner of the Stanley Cup, the champion, is last. This is how a ranking is established and in this order the clubs can each choose a player. There are a total of seven rounds, so a total of 217 players are selected.
Draft by video conference
This 58th edition of the NHL Entry Draft was originally planned for June 26 and 27, 2020 at the Center Bell in Montreal, but like the 2019/20 season playoffs, it was postponed due to the Covid pandemic. -19. Due to the cancellation of the regular season, the lottery draw modalities have also been significantly modified. It will now take place via video conference from the NHL Network studios in Secaucus, NJ.
Rossi, the most outstanding player in the Canadian youth league
In March, ice hockey talent Rossi won big in a poll among coaches in the Canadian OHL youth league. For the coaches, the 18-year-old from Vorarlberg was the smartest player, the best playmaker and number one in the penalty shoot-out. Shortly before, he made history in the Canadian Junior League OHL. The 18-year-old from Vorarlberg was the first European player to receive the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy for the season’s top scorer; more on this in Marco Rossi makes history (vorarlberg.ORF.at).
The race started at VEU Feldkirch
Rossi began his career at VEU Feldkirch and moved to Switzerland at the age of 13 to join the ZSC Lions youth team. In 2018 the Ottawa 67, who play in the Ontario Hockey League, moved to Canada.
With Austrian descent, Rossi has so far participated in the 2017 U18 World Cup, when he was named top scorer and third best scorer after Slovenian Jan Drozg and Italian Stephan Deluca, as well as in the 2018 U20 World Cup, as together with German Charlie Jahnke and Latvian Emīls Ģēģeris, third best scorer behind the two Kazakhs Artur Gatijatow and Nikita Nasarenko, each in Division I.
