What the champions get out of the 5-0 win over WSG Tirol in the Champions League.
Salzburg / Munich. With a 5-0 shootout over WSG Tirol, Salzburg warmed up against defending champion Bayern Munich for the Champions League hit on Tuesday (9pm, Sky live). Jesse Marsch’s rotating eleven (only Zlatko Junuzović and Dominik Szoboszlai were back in the starting eleven) were impressed by the playful approach of the WSG in the first half, but eventually got rid of them. After that, we were already looking forward to an incredibly large test against David Alaba and Co.
What was particularly valuable was knowing that the team would function, and score, even without forward Patson Daka. The Zambian forward is unlikely to return until 2021 due to a thigh injury, now other forces are required. Perhaps the time of Noah Okafor, who scored against the Tyrolese at 130 seconds. The Swiss Okafor, in winter 2019 with a transfer price of 11.2 million euros, the most expensive ticket in the history of the Bundesliga, is, according to coach Jesse Marsch, “always an option for the starting eleven”. Marsch sees a maturing process in the 20-year-old: “We talked to him a lot about tactics and showed him a lot of videos.” Substitute Sekou Koita also scored twice.
Overall, the American spoke of a “good rest for some players so that we can play a fresh, strong and ready team on Tuesday.”
Bavaria is not in top shape
At Bayern, self-confidence before the Salzburg match could be higher. After the arduous 2-1 victory in the Champions League at Lok Moscow, the dress rehearsal (2-1 in Cologne) before the duel in Wals-Siezenheim was not glamorous either. Marsch says: “We are not afraid of Bayern, but we know how good this team is. Perhaps it will be the best since Barcelona with Pep Guardiola ”(Ag.)
