The killer had prepared an apartment in Vienna for a shooting.

The cover could indicate that the 20-year-old or wanted to be prepared for the event that the police had learned of his murderous intentions before they were implemented and had arrived at his home. Or he assumed he would survive the attack, planned to return to his apartment, and wanted to take precautions if he faced a police operation there.

Adhesive tapes were also seized from the 20-year-old’s apartment, which had been used to make a model of an explosive belt he was wearing when the Vienna heart attack took place. Boxes containing the ammunition used in the murder were also found.

Ten men currently in custody

Acquaintances or friends of the murderer who were arrested as possible accomplices or accomplices are denying the accusations made against him. “That is completely wrong. So far there is no concrete evidence that he was aware of the attack plans or preparatory actions,” said Viennese lawyer Wolfgang Ebner, who represents one of the suspects. A total of ten men who are considered radical Islamists are currently in custody and are being investigated on suspicion of involvement in multiple murders, terrorist groups and criminal organizations.

Lawyer: Killer not present at meetings.

The current contents of the file also do not indicate that a terrorist attack was discussed or even prepared in the multi-day meetings with German and Swiss Islamists in the federal capital, Ebner said in an interview with the APA. His client, an 18-year-old who kept in touch with the killer mainly through Internet chats, “more or less came to one of these meetings.” They met in front of a gym, then went to eat something, “and since it was time to pray, they went to a mosque.” The latest killer was not present at this meeting, Ebner emphasized. The evidence that his client was responsible for contributing to terrorist acts was “generally extremely weak,” the lawyer said.

21-year-old accompanies murderers to Slovakia

In the meantime, it should be clear who accompanied the killer on the trip to Slovakia on July 21, where he, as the Slovak authorities informed the national intelligence agency, wanted to buy ammunition for an assault rifle. Another suspect, who has also been detained since last weekend, is 21 years old and has roots in Kosovo, according to information available to the APA.

Consequently, the 21-year-old also accompanied the murderer to the premises of the weapons store in Bratislava, but claims that there was a dispute then because he did not yet suspect that his friend was interested in ammunition. The 21-year-old’s defender declined to comment on the whole matter. “We have agreed that we will not speak to the media for the moment,” he told the APA.

Without reference to the driver in the night of terror

It is still unclear how the killer took him away during his attack in the city center, before the police fatally beat him. Among other things, it depends on the answer to this question whether the killer had a driver. Vienna State Police Chairman Gerhard Pürstl said on Tuesday there was no evidence of a deputy. That was the state of affairs on Wednesday, according to the Interior Ministry.

“The way in which the perpetrator entered the city is the subject of an investigation,” emphasized Harald Sörös, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, at the request of the APA. It was also ruled out that the 20-year-old could use the metro from his apartment in the city of the Danube. Researchers also think another video-surveillance public transportation is unlikely. This means that a taxpayer, taxis or other chauffeur services are in doubt if it is assumed that the terrorist did not walk or ride a bicycle.

Videos are still being evaluated

There were also no new findings in various videos that may be related to the attack. Among other things, a clip appeared on the night of the attack showing a man in the car with an assault rifle, obviously a Kalashnikov or a replica, pinned between his legs. This, like all the other videos, is still being reviewed, Sörös said. It is not clear if this video is related to the attack or if it was recorded in Vienna or Austria.

The Interior Ministry has also not yet provided any information about a video on the Russian television station RT, according to which crime scene investigators had forgotten a casing at one of the incident scenes. The investigation is ongoing, he said.
