The group around the Grieskirchen railway band is expanding. Yesterday 16 musicians and two contact persons fell ill with Corona. As OÖN was the first to report yesterday, the group started with a rehearsal in mid-September.
Stronger crown regulations have been applied to marching bands since Monday. However, these only affect the events, not the musical rehearsals. “Originally, the regulations for rehearsals were considered sufficient,” says Alfred Lugstein, president of the Upper Austrian Association of Music Bands.
Limited number of participants
After the group was known, the situation would have to be reassessed. In the future, the number of participants in music rehearsals could be very limited. The fact that marching bands could no longer rehearse together is not an option for Lugstein. “Not being able to rehearse together at all would be like a confinement.” Grieskirchen’s second brass band, the Stadtkapelle, has been rehearsing in the parish hall since the beginning of September. “We can keep more distance here than at Musikheim. In order not to give Corona a chance, we keep a distance of two meters,” says President Martin Kasbauer. In response to the cluster in the railroad band, he canceled the fall concert on October 24. It would have been a replacement for the spring concert canceled due to Corona. “Doing gigs now would be the wrong sign,” says Kasbauer.
Two deaths
Yesterday there were 92 new infections in Upper Austria, and the number of cases has increased in the groups of the parcel company Ansfeldner and the meat processor Rieder. In total, 755 people in the country fell ill yesterday from Corona. The number of infections in schools also increased. There were new infections in 15 students, a teacher, and two school employees. With a 90-year-old man from the Braunau district and an 80-year-old man from the Perg district, there were also two deaths yesterday, both from previous illnesses. So far there have been 73 deaths from corona in this country.
15 people tested positive for Corona after a Turkish wedding in Schrems, Lower Austria, to which 700 guests are said to have been invited on September 12. Guests from Upper Austria are said to have also attended the celebration.
