For many Apple fans, the wait is over – the new iPhone 12 is here. willhaben, Austria’s largest digital marketplace, has taken this as an opportunity to take a closer look at current prices and market offerings from the well-known manufacturer.
Launch and Christmas fuel the search
The coveted Apple models are still among the most popular ads on the market. In 2020, iPhones will be searched more than 700,000 times a week. On average, a corresponding keyword search is carried out every second. Willhaben users are often looking for iPhone X and iPhone 11 (or Pro) models. The keyword “iPhone 7” was also entered very frequently in the market search field this year. The iPhone is particularly popular as a Christmas gift. But also around the presentation and market entry of a new model is increasingly sought.
2020: almost every second available smartphone is an iPhone
More than 300,000 smartphones have already been offered at willhaben this year. These included around 130,000 iPhone ads, about 45% of the smartphone offering. Within the iPhone series, iPhone 7 models were sold more frequently, more precisely in more than 17,000 advertisements. The range of new iPhone generations is also particularly wide: from the X series to the iPhone 11 Pro, there were almost 40,000 ads. The selection in the market square is greatest just before Christmas. In December 2019 alone, more than 22,000 ads were put online for the various iPhone models.
Average selling prices for iPhone
The average price of smartphones varies depending on the age of the model. This year, the iPhone 11 was offered for an average of about € 630, the Pro version for about € 880. The iPhone XS for about € 520 and the iPhone X for € 410. The possibility of resale also varies from one model to another. Newer series like B. iPhone 11 has a 75% chance of being sold again.

The motto of the sellers is: sell fast. Because prices are constantly falling since the launch of a new smartphone. The iPhone 11 was offered for around € 770 in September 2019, but the sale price has now dropped to around € 600.
