The Czech Republic bans meetings with more than six people

In the fight against the corona pandemic, the Czech Republic is taking tougher measures. As of Wednesday, meetings with more than six people will be banned, as Health Minister Roman Prymula announced Monday night.

Restaurants, bars and nightclubs must close until further notice. The consumption of alcohol in public is prohibited. All schools have to transition to distance education for just under three weeks in early November. The mask requirement no longer only applies indoors, but also at public transport stops. The stores remain open.

“We have only one attempt that must be successful for us as a nation to be able to control this pandemic,” Prime Minister Andrej Babis said.

New infections: higher value in the EU

The Czech Republic saw a sharp increase in new corona infections. According to the EU agency ECDC, an average of 493.1 people per 100,000 inhabitants were infected in 14 days, the highest value in the EU.

The death toll since the pandemic began surpassed the 1,000 mark for the first time on Monday. In relation to the Covid 19 disease, 1,045 people died, according to data from the Ministry of Health. The Czech Republic has almost 10.7 million inhabitants.
