It was a turbulent day in the Austrian soccer Bundesliga. The unit, which was ultimately emphasized by Bundesliga executive Christian Ebenbauer, was not so clearly recognizable in previous discussions. The most important questions and answers at a glance:
>> What’s new in the Bundesliga? Most important was the agreement to extend the season from the end of June to July 31. This leaves a little more time to play. The second item on the agenda was the approval of the “Corona Concept”, which is now being sent to the Federal Government.
>> What are the points of this concept?
It’s about managing the games. Only 200 people are allowed per match, of which only those who belong to the “Red” group (players, coaches, umpires, ball boys) must be evaluated for the crown. Those of the groups “Orange” (people who remain inside without contact with the players) and “Yellow” (people in the stands) do not have to be evaluated. The concept is said to have a strong German signature and is very similar to that of RB Leipzig. Leipzig doctors are also featured in the concept print sent to the clubs. Outside of games, testing should take place every second to third day. Exact costs are not yet available. Also confirmed: a case of Corona does not lead to abandonment of the championship. Each club can add 30 players to its roster. If of these 30 players, 14 field players plus two goalkeepers are fit, that should be enough to start the game. According to the league, there are enough testing capabilities.
>> Was the unanimity really as big as the league declared after the club conference?
No, for example, it was never mentioned if there were abstentions. In general, after a majority decision, people are happy to be transported away after all decisions have been made together. There are said to have been heated discussions internally because some clubs are struggling extremely with financial burdens. It remains to be seen if it will start in mid-May.
>> Can there be a political veto now?
In theory, of course, yes. However, cooperation between the Bundesliga and FB with the Ministry of Sports is very close. It is hard to imagine presenting a concept that does not meet the requirements of the policy.
>> Why wasn’t the second division canceled yesterday?
This was mainly for formal reasons. There was a request from the GAK for the termination of the league. However, since this was only introduced during the conference, this time it would take a two-thirds majority instead of a simple majority to allow even the app. Nine clubs, according to ON-Infos Blau-Wei Linz, Forward Steyr, FC Juniors, GAK, Lustenau, Dornbirn, Lafnitz, FAC and Amstetten, agreed. That was the majority, but this time it wasn’t enough.
