The coronavirus survives on the skin five times longer than the flu virus

According to the study published in the journal “Clinical Infectious Diseases”, the SARS-CoV-2 virus remains active for up to nine hours, while the influenza A virus that causes influenza only survives 1.8 hours.

The risk of infection can be reduced with regular and thorough hand washing, as recommended by the World Health Organization, the researchers write. Both the coronavirus and the flu virus could also die in 15 seconds with ethanol, such as that contained in hand sanitizers.

Since the coronavirus appeared in China last December, nearly 40 million people around the world have been infected with the pathogen.
