“The climate crisis is the true pandemic, with seven million deaths every year”

Due to the coronavirus, the international climate conference “Austrian World Summit 2020” (AWS) had to be held yesterday in a completely new format at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. For the “Corona theme” of the climate summit, spacers were placed between the seats at the Bumchen riding school.

Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, the patron of AWS, was thinking about “the conference of the trees.” In his speech, the head of state said: “I see almost more trees than people.” And based on Erich Kstner’s classic children’s book “Animal Conference”, Van der Bellen said: “We will put the world in order! After all, we are not human!” – and turned to the audience: “You are already convinced, that’s why I talk mainly to people who are not here.”

“Positive goal for the future”

To convince these people, neither the fear of the climate crisis nor compensating the damages helps: a “positive goal for the future” is needed for everyone, just to create the necessary motivation. Then you can put the world in order, because “after all, we are human.”

Van der Bellen, however, returned to the trees: “There is also a Styrian oak among these: Arnold, you are an inspiration,” praised the federal chairman of the AWS organizer, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had to stay in Los Angeles due to Corona, but through The Live Connection actually, as announced, was more present than ever at the summit. Schwarzenegger recalled the urgency of the climate crisis and reported on the devastating fires in America, which made reality look like a disaster movie. “The climate crisis is the real pandemic,” Schwarzenegger said. “With seven million deaths every year, and there is no vaccine against it, other than our own actions.”

By the way, at the end of the event, Schwarzenegger received the Grand Gold Medal of Honor with a Star for Services to the Republic of Austria.

Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (VP) said: “Even if our focus is on fighting pandemics and the global economic crisis, it is important not to forget about climate change.”
