On Thursday, Health Councilor Peter Hacker confirmed that the city of Vienna is leaving the Interior Ministry’s coronavirus crisis team. The reason for this is that AGES has changed its reports on the number of infections.

The city of Vienna leaves the coronavirus crisis team of the Ministry of the Interior. With this, the Councilor for Health of the City Council Peter Hacker (SPÖ) confirmed this Thursday the media reports on the sidelines of a press conference. One of the reasons he gave was that the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) changed its system for reporting the number of infections and that the statistics are now released at 2 pm

The Interior Ministry crisis team meeting took place at 9:00 am, for hackers in the middle of the day, “where we have to make preparations so that the proper data is available at 2:00 pm.”

The hacker doesn’t want to waste human resources

In any case, Hacker considers the AGES switch to the 2:00 pm post to be “smart,” as he put it. On the other hand, he finds data collection at 9:00 am impractical, since it falls in the middle of the daily routine, “where we have to make preparations so that the appropriate data is available at 2:00 pm. And furthermore: “I don’t believe in wasting our human resources in meetings instead of investing in analysis.”

But there is another reason for leaving the crisis team at the Interior Ministry. Hacker further criticized it for having become a “Propaganda Ministry”. “Now every day there are some false reports, some false statistics. That is really tedious. And I want my employees not to spend all day falsifying false reports, but to do their job.”

Cooperation with the Health Ministry remains good, as Hacker clarified on Thursday. “They have the leadership in the pandemic, as it should be.” They would get all the information and: “We remain a super active and constructive member of the Crown Commission, nothing will change there.”

Nehammer again offered aid to Vienna

In a written response from Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) to the APA: “That Vienna did not even participate in the meeting of the crisis team of the federal government and the federal states today and wants to get out completely, although the situation in the city and today The figures are alarming and show that there is little willingness to cooperate. Several members of the task force would have wanted to exchange information with the city of Vienna in the crisis team and did not have the opportunity to do so. This inhibits joint work in the fights against the virus, especially in the contact area. “Tracking.”

Once again, Nehammer Vienna offered help and cooperation, on the one hand with contact tracing, on the other hand with the control of quarantine measures. “We hope that the city of Vienna will at least accept our help after the Vienna elections and that political-partisan maneuvers will stay out of the crown crisis. Electoral tactical reasons have no place in crisis management. It’s five past twelve. “
