Muslim, Jewish and Christian representatives condemn the attack in Vienna
Following the Islamist-motivated attack in Vienna, representatives of Islam, Judaism and Christianity in Germany condemned the act and expressed their condolences to the victims.
▶ ︎ The terrorists were waging “war against God and his people” and would receive “just punishment” for this, the president of the Central Council of Muslims (ZDM), Aiman Mazyek, said on Tuesday.
▶ ︎ The president of the German Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Georg Bätzing, stated that he was “stunned” by the attack.
▶ ︎ The Turkish-Islamic religious association stated that the “brutal act of terrorism in Vienna also deeply affected us in Germany”. The message applies to the terrorists and their sympathizers: “You are a despicable group of failed people who must consider just punishment in this life and the next.”
▶ ︎ The President of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, called the events in Vienna an “attack on humanity in general. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. “
▶ ︎ The Central Council of Jews of Germany also reacted with great consternation. “After the recent attacks in France, the Islamists have once again carried out an attack against our free democracies and our values in Vienna, of which innocent people were victims,” declared the president of the Central Council, Josef Schuster.
▶ ︎ Islamists despised “religious tolerance and our plural societies.” At this time, “we must together in Europe defend our democratic values and counter this hatred.”
