For travelers who have stayed in one of the two federal states in the last ten days before entering the country, a quarantine obligation will be applied starting next Monday in Switzerland, the Swiss Ministry of Health announced this Friday.
European countries Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Hungary, Great Britain, as well as the French region of Brittany and the Italian region of Liguria are also new to the Swiss list of risk areas. Entry from risk areas must be notified to cantonal authorities. Even with a negative corona test, the ten-day quarantine cannot be avoided or shortened.
Travelers in transit who have been in a state or area with a higher risk of infection for less than 24 hours are exempt from the quarantine obligation.
Countries and regions in Switzerland that have registered more than 60 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days are considered risk areas. This limit is also exceeded by some cantons, including Vaud and Geneva in western Switzerland. However, there are no travel restrictions within the country.
Stelzer’s decision “incomprehensible”
The Swiss decision received little approval from the governor of Upper Austria, Thomas Stelzer: “Incomprehensible and based on objective figures absolutely incomprehensible. (…) I do not know on what basis Switzerland makes such decisions”, Corona’s situation in The state is stable.
There are currently 725 active cases in Upper Austria, the 14-day number of cases is 65.18, well below the Austrian average of 99.46, Stelzer argued. In addition, the origin of the infection is found in 81 percent of those affected in the state, making Upper Austria “the state with the most resolved corona cases.”
