Swiss beds are full and uncertain when testing

First of all, thank you for the many positive and sometimes critical comments in our first journal about Lockdown # 2. In particular, the passage according to which the government failed to take the population with it by vision received many comments. There were also many suggestions: A € 200 voucher for those who tested negative in the mass test before Christmas. Would that be constitutionally possible? Why not. The Schnitzel voucher only for Viennese was also possible. Or the question of why schools have not yet been equipped with video-capable PCs. Many teachers are unable to conduct their lesson via video because there are no computers with cameras or microphones. Incredible. It is the year 2020, yes.

Germany is in a much better position

Today we want to take a look beyond the borders: in Germany, the dynamics of the infection are much better than here. Strictly speaking, they are four times higher here than in the neighboring country (the Spaniards just scored 5-0 against the German national soccer team, a bit of an unpleasant comment). And yet the Germans are discussing stricter lessons in schools, 10,000 deaths are forecast for Christmas, the Greens want to lock up more than others. The comment of the German ambassador in Vienna Ralf Beste in the “Wiener Zeitung” was really funny. Your Finding: “Germans love rules, Austrians have a better eye for exits“And it describes the tricks the Austrians tried to use against the German entry rules.

Fauci is working on a post-Trump strategy

Meanwhile in the US the numbers are also better than ours, of course they are not a role model either. And the famous and hated infectious disease specialist Anthony Fauci is already working on a strategy for the post-Trump era. It calls for more uniform national measures and not a patchwork of individual state decisions. Imagine if Fauci knew about Austrian federalism and the different management of federal states …

Just yesterday Upper Austria Governor Stelzer attributed the high figures for his “Hoamatland” to the fact that the Danube only uses excellent PCR tests. The entire republic now depends on rapid antigenic tests. Also, only PCR tests are included in the statistics for all federal state statistics. Antigen testing is not reported. And it’s there again, the uncertainty. Finns, on the other hand, attribute their low numbers to the high level of trust that people have in their scientists and politicians. Plus, every second, Finn has the Corona app there, and thousands of tracers were trained in the summer.

The Swiss catastrophe

But things get really tough in Switzerland. Because the political system there provides for a government of concentration of all parties, a national shutdown fails despite horrible crown numbers. Now it is to be feared that in Switzerland we will see how things would have been in Austria if there had been no blockade, as the SPÖ, Neos and FPÖ have expressed in parliament in their voting behavior. Correctly, the only reason Red and Pink disagreed was the school’s closure, they say. But the price is high.

The Swiss Society of Intensive Care Medicine announced yesterday: The beds are full. Now no new Covid patients or other patients can be admitted.
