Mai wurden wegen der Coronavirus-Pandemie mehr als 550.000 EU-Bürger aus dem Ausland zurückgeholt. “Als der Gesundheitsnotstand weltweit seinen Höhepunkt erreicht hatte, waren viele Europäer im Ausland gestrandet und konnten nicht nach Europa zurückkommen. Davon waren rund 600.000 unserer Bürger betroffen,” sagte der EU-Außenbeauftragte Josep Borrell der “Welt”.

Rund 50.000 sitzen den Angaben zufolge noch fest. Die Rückkehr der verbliebenen Europäer sei besonders schwierig. So erteile Marokko beispielsweise bis heute kaum Landegenehmigungen. Auf den Philippinen, in Kamerun und in Indien könnten die EU-Bürger nur schwer zum Flughafen gelangen, weil weiterhin sehr strenge Ausgangsbeschränkungen gelten.

Die Anzahl der rückkehrwilligen Österreicher, die aufgrund der Coronakrise im Ausland gestrandet sind, ist unterdessen auf unter 200 gesunken. Das gab das Außenministerium am Freitag bekannt.

8.15 Uhr: Tausende Kalifornier demonstrierten für Lockerungen

In California haben tausende Menschen für eine Lockerung der wegen der Coronavirus-Pandemie verhängten Ausgangsbeschränkungen demonstriert. Es gab am Freitag Proteste in mindestens elf Städten des US-Bundesstaats, darunter die Hauptstadt Sacramento too San Francisco, Los Angeles und San Diego.

Medikamente gegen Bluthochdruck erhöhen nicht das Risiko einer Covid-19-Erkrankung oder eines schwereren Krankheitsverlaufs nach einer Infektion mit dem neuartigen Coronavirus. Das geht aus drei Studien hervor, die am Freitag in dem Fachmagazin “New England Journal of Medicine” veröffentlicht wurden. Sie dürften Millionen Menschen beruhigen, die blutdrucksenkende Mittel einnehmen.

Die Studien bezogen zwei Arzneimittelgruppen ein, die auch Diabetikern verschrieben werden. Darunter waren Lisinopril, Losartan und Valsartan. Nach Tierversuchen war zunächst befürchtet worden, dass durch die Medikamente die Zahl der ACE2-Enzyme im Körper erhöht werden könnte, die das Virus Sars-CoV-2 als eine Art “Türöffner” beim Menschen nutzt.

7.50 Uhr: NASA und SpaceX halten an Start zur ISS fest

El US-Raumfahrtbehörde NASA und das Raumfahrtunternehmen SpaceX halten trotz der Corona-Pandemie an ihrem Plan fest, erstmals seit zehn Jahren Astronauten von den USA aus zur Internationalen Raumstation ISS zu schicken. “Wir werden das hier machen inmitten der Coronavirus-Pandemie”, sagte NASA-Chef Jim Bridenstine am Freitag vor Journalisten. Mission was a high priority for the United States.

Eine SpaceX-Raumkapsel vom Typ “Crew Dragon” soll die beiden US-Astronauten Bob Behnken und Douglas Hurley ins All bringen. Der Start soll am 27. Mai vom Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral im US-Staat Florida erfolgen. Bridenstine advised against coming to the Kennedy Space Center on the occasion of the pandemic. “It saddens me to say that. I wish we could do something really spectacular.”

Behnken and Hurley, who have been preparing for the Mission for years, are said to be on the ISS for one to four months.

7.45 Uhr: Grüne halten Deutschlands ersten digitalen Parteitag ab

Die Grünen halten am Samstag (ab 14.00 Uhr) Deutschlands ersten digitalen Parteitag ab. Der sogenannte Länderrat, was einem kleinen Parteitag entspricht, findet vollständig im Internet und per Videokonferenz statt. Hauptthema ist die Coronakrise und der Umgang mit deren Folgen.

“Solidarität ist der Kit, der unsere Gesellschaften zusammenhält”, mahnte Parteichefin Annalena Baerbock, vor allem diejenigen im Blick zu behalten, “die nicht die lauteste Stimme haben”, zum Beispiel Kinder, Pflegebedürftige oder sozial Schwache. Für sie müsse es “einen sozialen Schutzschirm” geben. In einem Antrag für den Länderrat fordern die Grünen, bei den Corona-Schutzmaßnahmen den Grundsatz der Verhältnismäßigkeit zu beachten.

7.40 Uhr: Finanzielle Situation von Studenten weiter verschärft

A Viertel der Studenten hatte schon vor der Coronakrise finanzielle Schwierigkeiten, an den Kunstunis und unter Älteren waren es laut Studierendensozialerhebung 40 Prozent. Mit dem Wegfall vieler klassischer Studentenjobs hat sich die Situation laut Österreichischer HochschülerInnenschaft (ÖH) weiter verschärft. “Hier muss die Regierung unbürokratisch helfen, denn es geht um Existenzen”, fordert die ÖH.

7.35 Uhr: Medienkonzern NBCUniversal erwägt massive Entlassungen

El US-Medienkonzern NBCUniversal erwägt einem Medienbericht zufolge angesichts der Corona-Pandemie massive Stellenstreichungen. In dieser Woche hätten im Unternehmen bereits die Beratungen über Kostensenkungen einschließlich Entlassungen begonnen, berichtet das “Wall Street Journal” (WSJ) unter Berufung auf mit der Angelegenheit vertrauten Personen.

NBCUniversal bekommt die Pandemie deutlich zu spüren, da seine Kinos und Themenparks geschlossen wurden. The group includes broadcasters, theme parks, film and television studios, production companies and digital platforms. Bei NBC Universal war zunächst keine Stellungnahme zu erhalten.

7.30 Uhr: Weißes Haus blockiert Fauci-Anhörung

Than Weiße Haus blockiert eine geplante Anhörung des prominenten US-Regierungsberaters und Immunologen Anthony Fauci zur Corona-Krise im US-Repräsentantenhaus. Der Vizesprecher des Weißen Hauses, Judd Deere, teilte am Freitagabend (Ortszeit) mit, es sei “kontraproduktiv”, Menschen, die an Maßnahmen gegen das Virus arbeiteten, derzeit bei Anhörungen im Kongress auftreten zu lassen.

7.25 Uhr: Irland verlängert Ausgangsbeschränkungen bis 18. Mai

El irische Regierung hat die Ausgangsbeschränkungen in der Coronavirus-Pandemie erneut verlängert. Die Bestimmungen sollen zunächst bis zum 18. Mai weiter gelten, sagte Premierminister Leo Varadkar am Freitag. Danach sollen sie schrittweise gelockert und das Land in mehreren Phasen wieder geöffnet werden, sagte der Premier in einer Fernsehansprache.

Die verschiedenen Phasen sollen jeweils drei Wochen auseinanderliegen. Sollte alles laufen wie geplant, werde die letzte Phase am 10. August inicio “Es wird eine Weile dauern, bis unser Leben zur Normalität zurückkehrt – zu einer neuen Normalität”, betonte Varadkar, der selbst Arzt ist.

In der ersten Öffnungsphase ab dem 18. Mai sollen dann erstmals Treffen von bis zu vier Personen im Freien erlaubt sein. Zudem soll eine Kinderbetreuung zunächst für Mitarbeiter des Gesundheitswesens ermöglicht werden. Einige Geschäfte und Sportanlagen im Freien sollen ebenfalls wieder öffnen, wenn auch alle unter Auflagen.

7.20 Uhr: Spanier dürfen wieder das Haus verlassen

Erstmals seit sieben Wochen dürfen die Spanier am Samstag wieder ihre Häuser verlassen. Sport im Freien und Spaziergänge von Mitgliedern eines Haushaltes sind wieder erlaubt. Diese Lockerung der strengen Corona-Restriktionen ist Teil eines langfristigen Plans der Regierung, nach Wochen des Stillstandes wieder etwas Alltag zuzulassen.

Spanien ist eines der am schlimmsten von der Corona-Pandemie betroffenen Länder, es starben schon mehr als 24.800 Menschen. Allerdings ging die Zahl der neuen Todesfälle in den vergangenen Tagen kontinuierlich zurück.

Seit dem 14. März gilt in dem Land die europaweit schärfste Ausgangssperre, sie wurde vorerst bis zum 9. Mai verlängert. Allerdings ist es im Rahmen der vorsichtigen Lockerungen seit kurzem bereits Kindern unter 14 Jahren erlaubt, mit einem Erwachsenen eine Stunde am Tag das Haus zu verlassen. Zum Schutz der Risikogruppe dürfen Senioren nicht im gleichen Zeitraum wie Kinder ins Freie.

7.10 Uhr: Bundesheer testet 4.000 neue Soldaten

Kommenden Montag rücken 2.300 Milizsoldaten und 1.500 Grundwehrdiener erstmals in die Kasernen des Bundesheeres ein. Sie alle werden im Rahmen ihrer Einstellungsuntersuchung auf Covid-19 getestet, teilte das Militär der APA mit. Die Proben werden umgehend nach der Abnahme an zwei zivile Labors im Osten und Westen des Landes übergeben und innerhalb von zwölf bis 36 Stunden ausgewertet.

Than UN-Flüchtlingshilfswerk befürchtet angesichts der Corona-Pandemie eine humanitäre Katastrophe in etlichen afrikanischen Staaten. Seit dem ersten bestätigten Fall Ende Februar hätten sich in West- und Zentralafrika Tausende weitere Menschen angesteckt, sagte der Geschäftsführer der UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe Deutschland, Peter Ruhenstroth-Bauer, der “Saarbrücker Zeitung” (Samstag).

Dabei gehe es um eine von Gewalt, Hunger und Dürre geprägte Region, in der schon vor Ausbruch des Virus insgesamt rund zehn Millionen Menschen internationale Hilfe benötigt hätten.

“Europa muss schnell aktiv werden und beim Aufbau funktionierender staatlicher Strukturen helfen, bevor sich die Lage weiter zuspitzt”, sagte er. Zu nennen sei hier vor allem die Ausbreitung von Armut, Kriminalität, Terrorismus und Waffenhandel. “Wird das nicht unterbunden, droht eine humanitäre Katastrophe, deren Folgen auch Europa zu spüren bekommen wird.”

Einkaufszentren und Co. machen wieder auf

Nach fast sieben Wochen Corona-Shutdown dürfen am Samstag auch Einkaufszentren, Friseure sowie alle Geschäfte mit über 400 Quadratmetern Verkaufsfläche wieder aufmachen, darunter die großen Elektrohändler, Modeketten, Möbelhäuser und Sportartikelhändler. Eingekauft werden muss mit Maske und Abstand. Zur Wiedereröffnung winken großzügige Rabatte. Die Lager sind randvoll und müssen abverkauft werden.

Gewerkschaft: Entscheidung bis 6. Mai

In dem Brief werden die Direktoren der einzelnen Schulen ersucht, die Entscheidung ihrer Lehrer “hinsichtlich einer freiwilligen Öffnung und Durchführung des regulären Unterrichts bis Mittwoch, den 6. Mai 2020 12 Uhr, an die jeweilige Bildungsdirektion zu melden“. In beiden Wochen (18. bis 22. Mai bzw. 8. bis 12. Juni) sollen beide Schüler-“Schichtgruppen” an je zwei Tagen unterrichtet werden.

Erster Sonderzug möglicherweise am 9. Mai

Ein erster Sonderzug mit rumänischen Pflegekräften an Bord könnte möglicherweise am 9. Mai in Richtung Österreich rollen. Die Personentransportsparte der Rumänischen Eisenbahn (CFR Calatori) stehe in Verbindung mit der ÖBB, damit “ein Korridorzug für Saisonarbeiter, einschließlich aus dem Bereich der Sozialpflege, auf der Strecke Rumänien – Österreich eingerichtet wird”.

Mehr als 27.000 Tote in Großbritannien

The number of Corona-Toten in Großbritannien ist auf mehr als 27.000 gestiegen. 739 Menschen seien innerhalb der vergangenen 24 Stunden an den Folgen einer Coronavirus-Infektion gestorben, sagte der britische Gesundheitsminister Matt Hancock am Freitag in London. Damit gebe es nun insgesamt 27.510 Todesopfer im Land.

15 Infektionsfälle in Heim für Asylwerber

In “Haus Erdberg”, einer Betreuungsunterkunft für Asylwerber in Wien-Landstraße, sind 15 Personen positiv auf das Coronavirus getestet worden. Das teilte der medizinische Krisenstab der Stadt Wien am Freitagabend in einer Aussendung mit. Da das Gebäude für eine längerfristige Quarantäne nicht geeignet sei, würden die Betroffenen an anderen Orten untergebracht.

Diese Woche hätten einzelne Personen des “Haus Erdberg” Covid-19-Symptome gezeigt, wurde mitgeteilt. Daraufhin seien “rasch” alle Personen der Einrichtung getestet worden. Than Screening sei noch nicht abgeschlossen. Nach den ersten positiven Tests in mehreren Fällen habe die Gesundheitsbehörde eine Quarantäne verhängt.

1. Mai-Feiern weltweit von Corona-Pandemie eingeschränkt

Wegen des Coronavirus hat der diesjährige 1. Mai eine besondere Symbolik: Weltweit geht die Wirtschaft in den Keller, verlieren Millionen von Menschen ihre Arbeit – und gleichzeitig wirft die Pandemie ein Schlaglicht auf die meist schlecht bezahlten “Helden der Arbeit”, wie beispielsweise Pflegekräfte, Kassierer, Lieferboten und Müllarbeiter.

In der Turkey und auf den Philippines kam es zu Festnahmen. Die meisten der kleinen Kundgebungen verliefen allerdings ohne Zwischenfälle.
