In many European countries, new negative records for the number of new coronavirus infections have been reported these days. In Hungary, for example, 3,149 new corona cases were registered in one day, according to official statistics on Sunday. The day before, there were 1,820 cases. The picture is similar, for example, in Croatia, Slovenia, Russia and Germany. In many places, stricter restrictions have been announced or, in some cases, already in place.

In Hungary, the number of identified SARS-CoV-2 cases increased to a total of 59,247, that of the victims to 1,425, as 35 people died from a corona infection or with a corona in one day. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Friday that he would push for a blanket mask requirement in Hungary, as curbing the pandemic depended on wearing a mask. As of Friday, the use of MNS masks had spread to outdoor events, such as soccer matches and demonstrations.

Croatia posted a record of new coronavirus infections for the second time in a row. A total of 2,421 new cases were registered in 24 hours, around 980 of them in the capital Zagreb alone. The number of active cases rose to 11,144, the crisis team announced Sunday. Eight people died from or with Covid 19 disease. 825 patients are treated in hospitals, 58 of them with artificial ventilation.

Additional crown measures will be introduced in Croatia on Monday, to be presented on Sunday. As announced by the crisis manager, Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic, the measures will be related to the restriction of close contacts. According to media reports, the interior minister ruled out a night curfew or a total shutdown.

Meanwhile, 1,675 new infections were recorded in Slovenia on Saturday, according to official figures released on Sunday. The positivity rate for the tests was 29 percent. There are 14,288 active corona cases in the country. Of 508 patients treated in hospitals, 71 are in intensive care. Six people died Saturday of or with Covid disease.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), German health authorities reported 11,176 new corona infections in one day. However, the number of cases registered is usually lower on Sundays, also because fewer tests are carried out on weekends. A total of 429,181 people in Germany have been infected with the virus since the start of the pandemic. (As of October 25, 00:00) Exactly one week ago there were 5,587 new infections in one day.

The number of deaths in Germany related to the virus increased by 29 to a total of 10,032. The 10,000 mark had been surpassed the day before. The number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.36 in Germany according to the RKI situation report on Saturday (previous day: 1.23). This means that 10 infected people infect almost 14 other people. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier.

In addition, the RKI gives the so-called seven-day R in its management report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 1.38 on Saturday (previous day: 1.30). It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.

Russia reported 16,710 new corona infections on Sunday. That’s about 200 more than Saturday. Authorities said 4,455 infections were added in Moscow in 24 hours. This increased the number of confirmed infections with the new virus nationwide to more than 1.5 million. Another 229 infected people died. Thus, the number of deaths increased to 26,050. After the US, India and Brazil, Russia has the fourth place with the most cases of infection worldwide.

As the eighth country in the world, Colombia has registered more than one million cases of corona. According to figures from the Ministry of Health on Saturday (local time), the number of confirmed infections with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen in the South American country has increased to 1,007,711 since the pandemic began. Compared to the previous day, nearly 8,800 new infections, around 5,700 recovered, and 198 deaths were added to the statistics.

Overall, the number of deaths related to Covid-19 disease is 30,000; According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University in the US, this is the 11th most in the world. There were sometimes strict exit restrictions, but most of the country has been open again since September.
