The Austrian Medical Association (ÖÄK) criticized Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) and his handling of the crown crisis with unusual harsh criticism. It is “completely incomprehensible why there are still no clearly understandable national guidelines for measures in the health sector,” Vice President Harald Mayer said in a broadcast.
Summer failures
The ministry should have resolved all of this in the summer, as well as consistent and functional contact tracking.
“The people, on whose trust the success of all pandemic measures largely depends, deserve clear and transparent decisions,” Mayer said. “That certainly won’t be achieved with more confusion and advertisements.”
“Time wasted with traffic lights”
Thus, Mayer sees the Minister of Health challenged with the new measures to be announced on Saturday.
Specifically, Mayer criticized the fact that pre-operative testing is sometimes handled differently within individual hospital operators, as well as different counting methods for those infected. “Instead, valuable time was wasted and a traffic light was retouched, so to this day it is unclear what consequences the traffic light colors have and the criteria by which they work.”
The situation of the pandemic has reached a crucial point, “the minister now must not allow himself any more mistakes.”
Anchor roll call
Anchober himself stayed true to his line and appealed to the population in a broadcast in view of the rapid increase in numbers. The situation is “now really dramatic.” In addition to the new measures that have already been taken and those that have been announced, “all the inhabitants of Austria” are now needed.
The Minister of Health calls for the immediate reduction of contact with other people.
ÖVP General Secretary Axel Melchior called for an “immediate end to political party games” in a broadcast. The current exceptional health and economic situation immediately demanded a non-partisan alliance, “because it is clear that the virus has no color.”
