News on Strache’s spending matter: There is an alleged amount of damages on the prosecution’s file. How high a prison sentence could be.
It was not the Ibiza issue that catapulted Heinz-Christian Strache out of the FPÖ and the party into crisis. It was the matter of expenses. As a reminder: Strache is being investigated because, according to the presumption of the prosecution, between 2006 and May 2019 it is said that he financed his private life in part with party money. To do this, he is said to have subjugated the FPÖ with false gastroenterology receipts.
As reported by “Krone”, the investigators are now likely to have committed to a sum of damages: “The total damage incurred in this way amounts to at least 580,832.82 euros,” says a document on the investigation.
The penalty could be so high
The Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating suspicions of breach of trust. Against Strache and his estranged wife, Independent MP Philippa, as well as his former office manager and two former bodyguards. It is said that they too knew of the alleged fraud and contributed to it. The presumption of innocence applies to all of the above.
As “Krone” writes, there is now a possible penalty in addition to the specific damage amount. A conviction for breach of trust with a damage amount of more than 300,000 euros threatens one to ten years in prison.
