The main candidate of Team HC was visiting the “press” chat and talks about his expenses, his poor knowledge of English and the “original” Jörg Haider.
Heinz-Christian Strache wants to know again. Following the Ibiza scandal, the political end seemed almost inevitable for the former FPÖ chief and vice chancellor. Almost. Now Strache is running in the Vienna elections with his own list. The ongoing investigations against him do not appear to bother the right-wing populist.
He began climbing the blue ladder at the age of 21 and in 1991 he became the youngest district councilor in his home district of Wien-Landstrasse, while also training as a dental technician. Politically, things quickly improved: he obtained a mandate in the Vienna Landtag rather quickly and was considered a beacon of hope for the traditionally strong regional group. Initially still a fan of Jörg Haider, he clung to his strongest match inside opponent. With Haider’s departure in 2005, Strache became party leader and consolidated the FPÖ both financially and among voters. Eventually, he promoted her to the government and left again.
Strache is married to SPÖ’s former assistant Philippa and has a son with her, as well as two children from his first marriage.
