Three games, three wins: SK Sturm Graz cap off a perfect football week.
Following the sensational success against Salzburg and the Cup promotion against Wacker Innsbruck, Graz celebrated a close 1-0 home win over WSG Tirol on Saturday (match report >>>).
This means that after eight Bundesliga matches, Sturm has 15 points, which means fourth place in the league. This is even more remarkable when you consider that the Grazers missed a game on the rest of the field after the game against WAC was canceled.
Overall, Sturm only lost one game in the current Bundesliga season, 0: 2 against LASK, which only underscores the good start to this season.
“We are fourth. It’s a good snapshot. We are good at the front and that’s very good for us,” said Jakob Jantscher, putting the current situation in perspective after the game. “It was a great week. Now we have to continue with it,” said the veteran in an interview with “Sky.”

Balaj: “It gives me great satisfaction”
One of the main culprits in the victory against WSG Tirol was Joker Bekim Balaj, who entered just eight minutes before his winning goal. It was also the Albanian’s first goal in the Bundesliga this season.
“I’m happy to have scored another goal for Sturm. Hopefully he scores more in the next games. It was very important for me. Coming off the bench and then scoring the goal that gives us three points gives us that.” I am very happy, “Balaj said.
Sturm’s head coach Christian Ilzer considers himself happy to be able to repeatedly throw hungry players off the bench into the game. “No matter how we change, we always bring new energy and a new presence on the field with our substitutes.”
“Like Tuesday, today we benefit from the fact that every player who comes into the game and is on the bench is absolutely ready to put the stamp on the game,” says Ilzer.
Siberberger: “Always the same record”
WSG Tirol could have also celebrated its third win in a row on Saturday. However, in the end, only one loss was unfortunate from a Tyrolean perspective.
“I think we did a reasonable performance, actually a very good one. What was missing, I have been setting the same record for weeks anyway, the great exploitation opportunity. I think there were three or four top-class players that we ended up in. to play we have to do one thing, then we will achieve something in Graz as well, “said WSG head coach Thomas Silberberger.
The WSG coach would have liked to take at least one point with him on Saturday. “We were absolutely at eye level with Sturm Graz. Sometimes we had the game in our hands. In the phase where I thought he could now lean the other way, we got the goal of the day through Inattention.”
But even despite the defeat, WSG Tirol’s performance gives courage that you will have nothing to do with relegation this season. “I think we are at a level where we no longer have to fear an opponent, as you saw today,” WSG defender Fabian Koch said.
