In Rum, Tyrol, a twelve-year-old girl was run over by a falling tree and, according to police, came out with minor injuries. The girl was in front of a residential complex around 7:35 pm, her mother was alerted by a scream and discovered her daughter under the fallen tree with a trunk diameter of around 20 centimeters. The twelve-year-old boy was admitted to Innsbruck University Hospital and was temporarily there for further observation on Saturday.

By Friday afternoon, two weather-related emergency landings of sport gliders had already gone well. Two 20-year-olds from Garmisch (Germany) who started a round in the Inntal Valley had to interrupt their flight near Kematen (Innsbruck-Land district) and fall into a field. A 43-year-old glider pilot from Innsbruck had to make a landing on the mainland in a field between Rum and Thaur (Innsbruck-Land district) a little later. All the occupants of the aircraft were unharmed. The foehn weather lasted Saturday morning and prompted numerous fire operations due to falling branches. At this time, no personal injury or major property damage has been reported.

Hurricane force in the mountains

As expected, storm foehn reached hurricane strength in some mountains. At the ZAMG Patscherkofel (Tyrol, 2251 m) and Rudolfshütte (Salzburg, 2317 m) weather stations, wind peaks of up to 160 km / h were measured on Saturday night, the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics reported. At low altitudes in Innsbruck, Bad Gastein and Abtenau peaks were found between 90 and 100 km / h, in the city of Salzburg, in Golling, Saalbach and Schröcken from 70 to 80 km / h.

With a strong current from the south, rain clouds accumulated on the south side of the Alps and here it rained heavily in some places. At the Kötschach-Mauthen meteorological station, 90 millimeters of rain collected in 24 hours (Friday morning to Saturday morning) and 70 millimeters at Dellach im Drautal. For comparison: on an average October total, 186 millimeters of precipitation fell at Kötschach-Mauthen and 147 millimeters at Dellach.

109 km / h am Feuerkogel

In Upper Austria, the storm hit the Feuerkogel plateau on Saturday morning with gusts of up to 109 km / h. In the lowlands, the wind force was limited: in the morning in Bad Goisern it was recorded 61 km / h, in Weyer it was 60, in Altmünster 58. The state fire brigade did not register any operations due to the storm.

In three districts of Upper Austria, the “orange” warning level remains valid until 18:00 on Saturday: in Gmunden, Kirchdorf and Steyr-Land, meteorologists still expect a strong foehn with peaks of up to 90 km / h, on the foehn lanes of the high mountains sometimes even more than 100 km. / H.

Districts on the northern edge of the Alps and in the transition to the foothills of the Alps are shown in yellow. That means wind peaks of up to 70 km / h. In the afternoon the wind turns west in the lowlands and reaches peaks of 50 km / h. The dense fields of clouds move and the sun only shines intermittently. It is possible for it to rain in the afternoon and at night. Sunday will also be foehn, but no longer stormy. In addition to the high clouds, the sun often shines, and maximum temperatures reach 15-19 degrees.
