The new Corona regulation should take effect at midnight. However, since it was only completed four hours earlier, the entry into force was postponed 48 hours until midnight Sunday. Health Minister Rudolf anschober He said in a first reaction: “While partial blockades have now been imposed in some European countries, Austria wants to avoid a blockade with all its might.”

The current infection figures show, according to Anschober: “Unfortunately we have not reached the peak, there are still increases.” He said that at a press conference on Friday. The main objective is still to avoid a blockade. But he is confident that this can be successful, despite the increase in numbers. But the situation is dire. There is still “no reason to panic” and there is still “room for improvement” in terms of hospital utilization. But above all the appeal for the fall holidays and All Saints’ Saints: “Stay home whenever you can.”

“Next year things can happen again”

Regarding Halloween, Anschober explains: “Next year things can happen again”, this year we must refrain from celebrations. Now we have to take responsibility for each other again, “what we need is the mood of spring.” Then you won’t need a lock. The 50-meter rule had to be enforced with the prohibition of alcohol to prevent the party from continuing after curfew.

When asked about the late publication of the regulation, Anschober stated that it was personally important to him that the measures go into effect and not the date the regulation went into effect. Now it is necessary to concentrate in the fight against the epidemic and “not to stop in trivialities”. “Millions of people” are affected by regulations, so you have to “approach these things with care.” That could turn out to “take longer.” In any case, a “highly professional package” has been put together.

The delay was also due to open legal issues, Anschober said. The clarification of this is more important than the time of publication. Also the criticisms of the SPÖ federal states that the information should only have gone to the ÖVP, Anschober did not apply. “I don’t care about party politics with something like that.”
