Statements of the ski jumpers after qualifying in Oberstdorf (GER):
Philipp aschenwald: I had a little problem last weekend, I went back to training at home at Christmas. Now I have jumped better step by step, but after my jump I did not think it was enough for the victory. I am very happy to have been able to improve. Just because you have won the classification does not mean that you have to win tomorrow. Conditions were more difficult towards the end.

Halvor Egner Granerud: There’s something of a touring feel, but it’s also weird to jump in here without the fans cheering it on. We had to wait a bit longer today due to the conditions, but when we jumped it was fine. The inrun track was good too, they did a good job preparing the hill. It’s a shame the Poles couldn’t jump, but I think that’s 2020. I just want to do normal jumps tomorrow and then we’ll see what the result will be.
Michael Hayboeck: My performance in training was good, I was on the right track. In qualifying it was very difficult to jump and you can easily get distracted when there are interruptions and you have a tailwind over the stern. Thank goodness we are now back to the beginning with the whole team, so you can tell the difference right away.
Karl Geiger: I am very happy to be there again. Today was not an easy day, but it was still a good day for me. I’m in good physical shape and I was able to train a bit. The empty stadium here is really weird, that’s not the right touring style, but that will come in time. This is a difficult time for everyone, we are already looking forward to having fans again next year.
Constantin schmid: It’s a shame there are no viewers, it would have been nice. But it must also be said that there is no other way at this time. We are happy that we can jump at all. It’s a shame that the Polish team can’t start here. It’s just stupid when something like this happens, not much can be said about it.
Richard Friday: The training was very, very hard, the jump in qualifying was a little better. Tomorrow the conditions should be easier so that’s a bit better for those who are not doing so well.
Friend of severin: It was stupid for me to have to wait a relatively long time before my jump. The jump was good, tomorrow I will attack. The atmosphere, of course, is not at all the same as it used to be, but we are still very happy to have a tour. We could all be free now and that would be very bitter. That is why we are all happy and grateful to be able to skip the tour.
