He and the chancellor were “very different types,” declared Minister Rudolf Anschober. The traffic light was successful, even if the choice of colors could have been designed differently.
Upper Austria has been serving as Minister of Health in Vienna since January. “I am someone who is slowly growing up in Vienna, but I haven’t seen much of the city yet,” admitted Rudolf Anschober on Wednesday evening. So it was fortunate that the green politician was a guest at the Vienna Ringturm with a panoramic view of the city on the occasion of the “Conversation in the Tower” series of debates.
But in the days of Corona, the discussion held by the “press” in cooperation with the “Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein”, of course, was not about sights. It’s about how Austria spends the fall in the middle of virus season. “Presse” moderator and editor-in-chief Rainer Nowak also mentioned that Anschober and Chancellor Sebastian Kurz have not always had the same opinion in recent weeks. “We are very different types,” Anschober said. “But that complements each other well.” Sometimes Kurz wanted to take stricter measures in certain areas, but sometimes himself, Anschober said. As a result, there is always a basic good humor between the two.
But government projects, such as the traffic light or the Corona app, have been the subject of public criticism recently. “The app will still give us a lot of pleasure,” but Anschober promised. In the spring, the debate on an application that could be mandatory for all did a lot of damage to the project, analyzed the minister. But “we are rebuilding it now,” Anschober promised.
The video of the conversation:
And how is the traffic light, the meaning of which was no longer understood in many places because new colors did not mean new measures? “The traffic light is the most underrated project of all,” said the green politician. He was “completely surprised” that there had been such harsh criticism. It is about simplifying the risk situation by using colors. And that was successful.
But why did two experts leave the Crown Commission recently? They weren’t used to “leaking what you say,” Anschober said. In some cases, there was actually a “live ticker” in the media of the confidential deliberations in the commission. “I have no idea how that happens. But it is an unusual situation for a technical expert when he is standing at the window, ”Anschober said.
“I do not interfere”
Political pressure on the stoplight commission was also rumored. Anchober at least ruled out that it would interfere with work there. “I don’t interfere, this is a pure technical commission for me,” Anschober said. That’s why he couldn’t say anything definitive about the rumor that Vienna would turn red. But he himself sees no signs of it.
Speaking of colors: Anchober seemed to regret choosing green as the lowest security level. “Maybe green was the wrong signal in terms of communications,” he said. Because green means free travel. And caution was advised at all times with the virus.
Unlike other politicians, Anschober is self-critical. He also apologized for legally questionable regulations in the past. Has apologizing already become the minister’s ploy? “I don’t have anyone to write a script. Maybe I wouldn’t make one mistake or another if I had a script, ”Anschober replied.
In times like these there was no audience. However, diepresse.com users were able to ask questions during the live broadcast. Where are you most likely to get infected in Vienna? Almost on public transportation, more in schools or at private parties, Anschober said.
“Stronger positioning in Vienna”
However, Anschober let it pass that there is room for improvement in the fight against the crown in the capital. It is true that it is increasingly difficult in the big cities, but Berlin, Munich or Rome have better values. “We will have to position ourselves more strongly in Vienna,” Anschober said, for example, in contact person management and pacing there.
Speaking of Vienna: The minister sees a decision on the direction between red-green and red-turquoise in Sunday’s elections. Anschober announced the red-green variant, which has already “done this city so well.”
The green politician from Upper Austria wants to see so much in Vienna.
