Mass testing for coronavirus will begin today in Austria, specifically with the Salzburg community of Annaberg-Lungötz. In order to carry out mass tests at the national level, ten million test kits have been ordered, of which 1.6 million have already reached the Armed Forces. Planning for the implementation of mass testing is very different in the federal states and has progressed to different degrees. Here is an overview.
What is certain so far is that kindergarten teachers and teachers will be assessed across Austria from next Saturday (December 5). For the cops, the massive tests start two days later (December 7).
General status of the differences in the massive tests
In Salzburg, testing will begin on Tuesday in the Annaberg-Lungötz community in Tennengau. The additional consequence in the state was only specified on Monday. The city of Salzburg will hold the massive voluntary corona tests on Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12. Three test stations are planned for free antigen testing: the exhibition center, airport terminal two and the congress center. The massive tests in the country take place at around 370 test locations and will take place on Saturday December 12 in Pinzgau and Lungau and Sunday December 13 in Flachgau, Pongau and Tennengau. Anyone over the age of ten can come with a photo ID and e-card without registering. In the city of Salzburg there are three large test stations, in rural communities there will be about 370 test locations, which are based on state elections of locations.
Vienna will start testing next Friday (December 4). Viennese can be tested in a total of three locations until December 13. The test centers will be installed in Messe Wien, in Marx-Halle and in Stadthalle. Capacities should be designed for up to 150,000 tests per day. If you want to be tested, you must register for an appointment online beforehand. That should be possible from tomorrow Wednesday.
The situation in Tyrol and Vorarlberg also seems quite clear: like Vienna, the two westernmost federal states start next Friday. The nationwide voluntary mass crown test will take place in Tyrol until Sunday. As in the elections, the test stations will be open from 7 am to 5 pm, at least in the larger municipalities. This opening hours were recommended to municipalities by the state. You do not need to register for the test. All people who live in Tyrol and are registered in the Central Register of Residents (ZMR) will receive a test form by mail in the days before the start. This must be filled out and brought with you. This should avoid crowds in front of the test sites as much as possible.
In Vorarlberg, the mass crown tests will start at the same time as Tyrol and Vienna on Friday and are planned until Sunday (December 6) inclusive. They are carried out in 80 test stations spread throughout the country from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Registrations are already possible and desirable on the Internet at https://vorarlberg.at/coronatest or by phone at 05574/601 -600.
In Carinthia, registration for the massive tests, which will take place from December 11-13, should work through the announced federal app. As the state press service announced on Monday in response to a request from the APA, they want to be prepared for the fact that records can also be processed analogously if there are problems with the system. The plan was to activate the teacher registration on December 2 (test date: December 5 and 6) – “in the future” this should also be possible for individuals.
The situation in Lower Austria seems more complicated, since here the tests are organized in a decentralized way. In St. Pölten, mass crown tests will take place on December 12 and 13 at four locations. As reported on Monday by the city council of the capital of Lower Austria, the VAZ, the meeting room of the train station, the Kulturhaus Wagram and the FH have been chosen. Registration will be possible from December 7 at www.testung.at. Wiener Neustadt, the second largest municipality in the country by population, will be testing from December 12-15. According to the magistrate, there will be eight locations. The population will be informed in writing. In addition, the link www.wiener-neustadt.at/covidtest was referenced on Monday.
The tests in Burgenland will take place from December 10 to 15. It is not yet clear how to get tested. There was no concrete information on the search as of Monday night. This information will be available “in the next few days” and will then be posted on the state’s website, in accordance with the request.
Also in Upper Austria, until now, only the date of the massive tests has been fixed: from 11 to 14 December. More details will follow later this week.
In Styria on the weekend 12/13. December named as the date for the massive test. More information should be available in the middle of this week.

In Salzburg, the teacher tests also start on December 5. To this end, the armed forces purchased 20,000 test kits. Delivery of the tests is expected to begin on December 3. The evidence is then delivered from the army fields to the Schwarzenberg Barracks in Salzburg, the Krobatin Barracks (St. Johann in Pongau), the Wallner Barracks (Saalfelden), and the Strucker Barracks (Tamsweg).
50,000 and 700,000 test kits were purchased for the province of Upper Austria. The 50,000 test kits for the upcoming teacher tests will be delivered to the state beginning December 3.
In Burgenland, around 10,600 test kits and 220,000 for mass testing will be provided to the education sector. Starting December 1, these will be delivered to military properties such as the Bruckneudorf Military Training Area, Martinkaserne in Eisenstadt and the Montecuccoli Barracks in Güssing for testing.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) praised the work of the army logistics managers as “fast and professional”. Thanks to the logistics experts of the Armed Forces, it is possible to deliver tests to all federal states on time.
