Innsbruck, Zirl – Tyrolean company Care by Light (a joint venture between MCI and Planlicht) is putting into operation its first “seCUBE” system in the food trade, in which shopping carts are disinfected with UV-C light . The system is being used at the Spar grocery store in Zirl. The surfaces are made germ and virus free without chemical agents.
The Zirl disinfection system works semi-automatically and is equipped with a multi-level safety system. As a result, customers collect and return shopping carts from the sanitizing tunnel, and indicator lights indicate whether a sanitized cart can be removed. When a used shopping cart street is full, a roll-up door automatically closes and the disinfection process begins.
The system was developed by MCI, Planlicht, the Institute for Hygiene and Medical Microbiology of the Medical University of Innsbruck and Berger ecotrail. The state financed the project with 144,000 euros, TT reported. The development of the “seCUBE” took seven weeks before it was first tested in supermarkets. (TT)
