Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) has rejected the rapid reduction of the quarantine of the contact person required by the ÖVP.

“In times of massive increases in the number of infections, I am not ready to take a greater risk to the population,” Anschober said on Saturday when asked by the APA. The ÖVP wants to allow the “free trial” of K1 contacts after five days of quarantine. Health officials in the federal states are skeptical.

Faßmann and Köstinger for “Freestyle”

Education Minister Heinz Faßmann (ÖVP) had previously demanded that teachers who had close contact with a person positive for Covid but did not develop any symptoms after five days should be released from quarantine with a negative test. The ÖP Minister of Tourism, Elisabeth Köstinger, has also spoken in favor of this “free choice”.

This is particularly demanded by the representatives of the company.

The Life Union also welcomed this idea on Saturday.

Anschober does not want to take risks

“I hope an early solution”, Faßmann deposited in the morning newspaper Ö1 in the direction of the Minister of Health, Rudolf Anschober (Greens). However, this was referring to the guidelines of health organizations such as the European ECDC and the WHO. Austria was the first country to reduce the quarantine from 14 to 10 days. “We are reviewing further simplifications and will implement them as soon as it is ensured that this does not increase risk,” Anschober said. You will not be at greater risk to the population.

Responsible health officials in federal states can also do little with “free” ones. Vienna City Councilor Peter Hacker refers to poor testing capabilities and instead suggests shortening the quarantine of symptom-free K1 contacts from ten to seven days. This would make the “freest” debate superfluous, Hacker said in the “press” on Saturday.

Regional Councilor Rüscher: “Illusory”

Vorarlberg regional councilor Martina Rüscher (ÖVP) had already described “Freest” on Thursday as “completely illusory”. Since the disease takes five to seven days to appear, from their point of view, this would make sense from the eighth day at the minimum. “Then I would get the negative test result on the ninth day. Anyway, the quarantine ends on the tenth day,” Rüscher told the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten”.
