ÖFB legionnaire Guido Burgstaller moves from Schalke 04 in the German Bundesliga to FC St. Pauli in the second division. The 31-year-old will receive a contract until June 30, 2023, as announced by the Hamburg-based company. Burgstaller was supposed to train with his new team for the first time on Wednesday. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.
Burgstaller joined 1. FC Nürnberg in 2015 and moved from the club to Gelsenkirchen in the winter of 2017. Last season, the former ÖFB national player played 21 matches, but was scoreless for the first time in the Bundesliga.
Burgstaller’s contract with Schalke 04 runs until the summer of 2022, but he was recently informed that he was no longer participating in the Bundesliga crisis club’s plans. The club’s split from manager David Wagner didn’t change that.
“I can not wait”
“I am looking forward to my new job. In my career it has always been important for me to play in clubs with a certain tradition. Now it is important for me to know my teammates and the philosophy of the coach and then of course to be on the field as soon as possible. I can’t wait to hear the ‘Hells Bells’ on the Millerntor, “said Burgstaller.
Head coach Timo Schultz said: “With Guido Burgstaller we are getting an absolute minded player who is not good for himself and does not forgive himself or the opponent. Things didn’t go well for him at Schalke recently, but he has shown quite often that he knows where the goal is. I think our fans can look forward to a player who brings with him the classic virtues of St. Pauli. “
