Sobotka, President of NR: Austria remains a reliable partner of Ukraine

The working discussion with Volodymyr Selenskyj underlines the excellent relations between Austria and Ukraine

Vienna (PK) As part of his official visit to Austria, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Selenskyj met with National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka for a working meeting this afternoon. The central theme of the exchange of views at the Palais Epstein was the excellent economic and cultural relations between Austria and Ukraine from the point of view of the interviewees. Internal political issues and the political situation in the region were also discussed.

The President of the National Council, Sobotka, placed particular emphasis on the dynamic developments that have occurred since the Austrian chairmanship of the OSCE in 2017. “Today there are very close political, economic, cultural and interpersonal relations between the two countries”, Sobotka said. “Austria has always been and always will be a reliable partner for Ukraine.” The president of the National Council mentioned Tanja Maljartschuk, winner of the 2018 Ingeborg Bachmann Prize based in Vienna, as an example of cultural exchange.

The intense economic relations between the two countries were mentioned in the conversation. Sobotka recalled that Austria was one of the largest foreign investors in Ukraine and that the country was valued by Austrian companies. She hopes to have the support of Zelenskyi so that Austrian companies can continue to operate successfully in Ukraine in the future. In his reply, the President of Ukraine reaffirmed his country’s readiness to further develop economic cooperation. He referred to the infrastructure projects planned in the transport sector and in tourism.

Sobotka: Austria supports EU line on Ukraine

Internal political developments in Ukraine, which are largely determined by the conflicts in Crimea and the Donbas, were also discussed. In this context, Sobotka underlined Austria’s support for Ukraine, which has a long tradition. This continues in Austria’s commitment to the uniform approach of the EU in the context of current regional conflicts.

For his part, the President of Ukraine recognized Austria’s important role for Ukraine and thanked his country for its support. He stressed that it was one of his main concerns to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the associated human suffering as soon as possible. (End) sox / red
