The aim is to avoid “contacts as much as possible”, “family gatherings should not be held,” said the Interior Minister. Citizens living alone should only define one contact person, but at the same time schedule as few meetings as possible.
“When it comes to policing, it’s always about making credible,” Nehammer said. There is exchange and information from the population, “but there should not be large meetings.” An example: a firefighter who meets with three colleagues in front of the bar of a club “should be avoided in any case”, says Nehammer, the administrative authority decides on an infraction. From 25 to 1,450 euros fine
In any case, “large group gatherings meeting in public space” are not allowed. Austrians could go out and walk indoors, “but they should do it alone.” The police will also harshly punish violations if the measures are not understood: organ mandates are possible, for example, by ignoring the mask requirement or safety distance, “beyond that” there are reports.
If the mask is missing, 25 euros are owed, and if there is no margin of safety, 50 euros, “and if there are complaints, the health authorities can impose a fine of up to 1,450 euros,” says Nehammer. Controls will also be increased everywhere “that are not directly considered living areas,” that is, in garages and outside areas. Police officers in rural areas would know very well where such conditions existed and would be monitoring more closely there. There will be no “turning a blind eye”.
