Alessandro Hämmerle celebrated his eleventh individual victory in the Snowboard Cross World Cup on Thursday at the Reiteralm. The Vorarlberger prevailed in the final ahead of the world champion of Spain Lucas Eguibar and reversed the result of the World Cup a week ago.
His teammate Jakob Dusek fell headlong with full force in the semifinals breaking his helmet. The Austrian from Baja, who went off the track, was taken to a hospital for control. Hämmerle achieved victories from start to finish in all his four races and will move on to the next two races as the 4th / 5th “with a big chest” and the World Cup leader’s jersey. In his own words, he had changed something in the binding the day before and he tested it successfully. “I knew when I was driving like this, I was super safe in the corners,” said the 27-year-old, a World Cup winner for the past two seasons. “It’s a dream if it turns out like this in the home race. I’m so happy.”

Dusek had reached the semifinals as the winner of his quarterfinals. There, the 24-year-old was initially positioned in second place, which would have helped him reach the final. But before jumping in, there was contact with Swiss catcher Kalle Koblet.
Dusek fell seriously and briefly lost consciousness. When he wanted to get up later, he fell again and finally left the track with the help of an assistant. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter.
Dusek qualified eighth, Sebastian Jud finished after the quarter-finals as the third-best Austrian in 16th place. In the women’s category, Pia Zerkhold from Lower Austria, the only ÖSV intern in the quarter-finals, was ranked 15. The best of the day was Italian Olympic champion Michela Moioli ahead of five-time world champion Lindsey Jacobellis of the United States.
